For me, as a life-long Guildfordian, Guildford Castle is the real hidden gem of my home town.
I know it might sound a bit odd to call it hidden when it is such a prominent landmark, but I think it is perhaps sometimes subsumed into the everyday landscape of hustle and bustle in the town, and is away from the busy parts of the High Street.
However, whether you are a resident or not it is always rewarding to visit. The castle itself is unremarkable, but the setting is fantastic, with gardens full of colour that reflect the seasons.
And being at the centre of a town, there are many interesting views afforded through arches and from side streets, such as the subject of my illustration.
